The next phase of the Conversion Process is to have your Edge System Setup scheduled and performed. This means an appointment will be set with the Edge Installation Team to install the software and configure to the Edge Demo. Getting started with the Demo allows you and your associates to start becoming familiar with the program prior to the delivery of your Preliminary Database. This step is designed to make you more confident when testing your converted data.
It is important to note that the Demo database is NOT your final database. Do not enter any information you wish to save, as you will lose it once your database is delivered. The Edge Demo simply for practice purposes.
If your Preliminary Database (also referred to as a Prelim) is ready prior to your Edge System Setup appointment, your Conversion Coordinator will configure to your Preliminary Database instead of Edge Demo. Your Conversion Coordinator and Conversion Programmer will make you aware which database will be configured during your setup and inform you of the next steps after setup.
What to Expect During Your System Setup
NOTE: This is a general guide based on the average System Setup. Your specific setup may differ based on the amount of workstations, hardware, and stores you may have. You will be made aware of what your specific setup appointment will entail during the scheduling process. Please contact your Conversion Coordinator with any questions.
- New User Resources:
Your Installation technician will verify with you first that you received the New User Resources email and watched the accompanying videos.
- Edge Installation:
The Edge software with required prerequisites (if not installed prior to the appointment start time) will be installed on your server computer and workstations. Your workstations will be configured (mapped) to your server computer so the data will sync/share data between all of your computers.
- SQL Installation:
Your technician will install and setup the SQL program on your dedicated server which runs your SQL database.
- SQL Backups:
After SQL has been installed successfully, your technician will setup your SQL backups with an additional task to remove old SQL database backups after 15-30 days. Once setup, your technician will direct you to the Edge SQL Backups folder where your SQL backups will be stored so you may setup an external backup system for your data backups.
NOTE: The automatic SQL backups are stored to your computer locally. We highly recommend taking these backups and setting up an external backup system. These external backups are necessary for us to help restore your data if a system crash or corruption were to occur.
- Hardware:
Any peripheral hardware you may have will be installed at the time of your System Setup. This may include tag printers, barcode scanners, cash drawers, and cameras.
- Other:
There may be additional setup required based on your specific setup, as mentioned above.
